What is a citation manager?

Citation management software allows you to collect, organize, cite, and share your research citations. 

Some of these are standalone programs/apps; some function as add-ons/plug-ins/ extensions for other programs (for your browser and/or your word processor).  Some of these are available as freeware and others require that you pay for a license.

One example of a licensed citation manager is EndNote.

How to Gather Citations and Export into a Bibliography

In your database of choice, use the small bookmark button in the browser address bar to add the search results (or a specific book or article) into your Zotero library.  Note that the icon may look different depending upon whether you are viewing a page for a single record, or a list of results, or a web page

After you have collected your citations in Zotero, select the ones you want to use.  Right-click in order to 
"Create Bibliography from Selected Items."

Select how you want to export the citations (APA, MLA, Chicago, or some other style; whether you need individual citations or a bibliography; etc.).

If you selected "Copy to Clipboard"- open a Word document and paste in your bibliography.
