MLA Handbook

MLA Handbook

The MLA Handbook (7th Edition) is available in the Library,  in Ready Reference, behind the reference desk.

The documentation style you use depends on the disciplinary area of the subject.  The style created by the Modern Language Association is known as MLA style, and it is used primarily by those in literary studies, as well as some of the humanities.  MLA style uses parenthetical in-text citations and a Works Cited page at the end of the paper for the bibliography.

For info on other styles see our library guide on this topic.

Who Uses MLA Style?

MLA (Modern Language Association) Style is most often used by students (and scholars) in the Humanities, but is especially used in English Language and Literature courses.  If you aren't sure which citation style to use, be sure to ask your Professor which style they prefer for assignments in their class.
