Atmospheric Science

The Aura mission studies the Earth's ozone, air quality and climate. It is designed exclusively to conduct research on the composition, chemistry and dynamics of the Earth's atmosphere.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) provides climate services consisting of operational prediction of climate variability, monitoring of the climate system and development of databases for determining current climate anomalies and trends, and analysis and assessment of their origins and linkages to the rest of the climate system.

Part of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications; the group research is centered on convection in the atmosphere and also, in the near future, in the ocean.

The Global Hydrology Resource Center (GHRC) is a part of the Global Hydrology and Climate Center (GHCC), located in Huntsville, Alabama. The GHRC provides data ingest, archive, and distribution services for the GHCC.

The Global Monitoring Division (formerly CMDL) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in Boulder, Colorado, conducts research related to atmospheric constituents that are capable of forcing change in the climate of the earth through modification of the atmospheric radiative environment, for example greenhouse gases and aerosols, and those that may cause depletion of the global ozone layer.

The Laboratory for Atmospheres serves as the focal point at the Goddard Space Flight Center for the leadership, planning, management, and execution of a broad theoretical and experimental research program dedicated to advancing our knowledge and understanding of the structure, dynamics, and radiative and chemical properties of the atmospheres of the Earth and other planets, using NASA technology and space observations. The Laboratory is an arm of the Earth Sciences Directorate.

The primary function of the Climate and Radiation Branch, which is part of Goddard's Laboratory for Atmospheres is to conduct basic and applied research with the goal of improving the fundamental understanding of Earth's regional and global climate on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales
