This includes information about the space, equipment, and resources available to students, faculty, and staff.

EinScan SE 3D Scanner

Scan objects of various shapes and sizes and turn them in digital 3D renderings or 3D print files. The resulting files may then be 3D printed on request (subject to 3D print fees). There is no fee to use the scanner. 

Creating 3D Models

There is a wide range of software available to create a 3D model. Below are some of the available options, and we recommend saving your file as .STL in order to 3D print.

There are multiple options available for designing posters. Below are a few options.

General Policies and Fees

3D printing and poser printing requires a completed form and the payment of associated fees before beginning the print. Print times are scheduled based on printer and staff availability and are only available for UAH students, faculty, and staff. Our printing fees are:

  • 3D print: $1 + $0.12 per gram of filament (with $3 minimum)
  • Poster print: $2.50 per half-foot (6 inches) of poster length

 

 

 

Patrons may print objects for research, education, and personal use with the following exceptions: 

  • Weapons, weapon accessories, or weapon components
  • Objects that resemble weapons or weapon accessories
  • Illegal objects
  • Copyrighted objects or any other objects that violate patents and trademarks
  • Anything with the UAH logo and other identity graphics without written approval of the UAH Office of Marketing and Communications 
  • Items printed for commercial purposes
  • Items violating the UAH Code of Student Conduct

Printing Process

To schedule a 3D or poster print:

  1. Visit the MultiMaker Lab during our open hours
  2. Fill out the digital print request form (available in the lab only) and submit your files to print
    1. 3D print file types: STL
    2. Poster print file types: PDF (preferred), PNG, JPG
  3. Lab staff will prepare the file for printing while consulting with the patron
    1. 3D prints: Lab staff will slice the print according to the patron's chosen settings (infill percentage, supports, etc.)
    2. Poster prints: Lab staff will upload the file to the print software and adjust the size according to the patron's chosen size
  4. Lab staff will calculate the cost for the prints and complete a paper invoice form.
  5. The patron will take the paper invoice form to the User Services desk to pay for the print using FLEX, check, credit card, or debit card. 
  6. The patron returns the completed form to the lab and lab staff will begin the print.
  7. Lab staff will oversee the print and notify the patron when it is ready for pick-up, and the completed print may be picked up anytime during lab open hours.

Best for small, precise prints

Prints objects up to 250mm x 210 mm x 210 mm (9.84 in x 8.3 in x 8.3 in)

Best for larger prints

Prints objects up to 280mm x 280mm x 250mm (11 in x 11 in x 9.8in)

HP Designjet Z3200ps Poster Printer

Prints posters up to 42" wide

Accepted file types: PDF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF
